Darren introduced the new members of the council who were voted in for a 2-year term. The new members are Dave Bluemel, Nikala Stephens, and Roy Hall. They are replacing Brooke Pugmire, Kyrell Younker, and PJ Anderson. Nicole Zollinger was voted in to remain on the council.
Lindsay made a motion for Nicole to continue as Chairman, and Nikala seconded the motion. All were in favor.
Darren reminded everyone about the School Community Council training on October 5th at 5:30 on Google Meet. The link will be emailed out. http://meet.google.com/cyk-doxy-jxb
Darren updated everyone on what has been happening at SV. The football field scoreboard is up and almost ready. The baseball field and basketball court both need some attention. The district is looking at those to see what needs to be done. We are also looking at improvements in the auditorium for the Sound and Light booth.
We had a great meeting with Especially 4 Athletes. Dustin Smith was the guest speaker, and he talked about getting athletes to step up and be part of the school's culture. His website E4A, encourages all athletes to step up. He also talked about the spotlight. Are you going to use it for good or bad?
Homecoming was last week, and everything was great. We had a huge crowd at the football and Powder Puff game. The dance was well attended. Nicole said the communication with students was great and gave Kudos to Vanessa for everything planned and done well.
Brady discussed our ILT Committee, which consists of 18 members. We have asked them to focus on students' experiences here at school, which shouldn’t depend on the teacher they have. The teaching needs to be aligned. We want everyone to set literacy goals and make genuine connections. The feedback was that if you are tracking, then it isn’t authentic. There are holes in the relationships with kids. We want to make sure everyone feels valued. Brady asked for any thoughts or comments. Nicole asked if we could implement this with the student leaders. Brady said they had talked about that. Kathy Christiansen said that when she sees former students, they tell her they appreciate how she made them feel, not what they learned. Brady said with literacy, they are trying to get students to speak and think about what they are learning. Especially in other classes that are not language arts. Teri asked what teachers are using for tracking connections? Brady replied that we left that open for the teachers, but some just use the clipboard. Vanessa uses her seating chart. Teachers will report by trimester, and the goal is to connect with one student each week. The ILT team came up with a list of non-negotiables, which is the Bobcat Way. They re-created this. The document has two parts that explain why we do things. We are trying to use the phrase “The Bobcat way with students”. We want the rest of the valley and state to be jealous of Sky View. Teri asked how to get the teachers to buy into it. Teachers don’t like flock shots. The Admin is more intentional in talking to teachers and some of the teachers on the ILT team will talk to teachers on their own.
Lindsay said she really appreciates all of this because we are hearing more about students transferring to other schools for athletics. Darren said we’ll do our best to make them feel like this is the best place to be.
The District has requested for volunteers to review a book. Darren asked if anyone would like to be on the committee. There are two different committees- Objective and Subjective. Don and Roy volunteered to do it. Their name will be passed on and they will be contacted
There was no other business, so meeting was adjourned until October 20th, 2026
